Which Lens Would You Recommend for a Canon Rebel?

I've been shooting with my Canon Rebel for over a year with the lens that came with the camera; the 18-55 lens. I'm now trying to decide what to upgrade to. I know I want a zoom lens. Should I go with the 70-300 or the 55-250 with image stabilization? My 18-55 has IS, and I know it's very important, but I'm wondering if the IS is worth 100 dollars more with less zoom. Just curious to see what everyone thinks!!
